Stand still and be deafened by the silence. As soon as you start forward you will only hear your breathing, the click of your sticks and the crunch of the crisp snow. Breathtaking, picture perfect snow covered countryside in its purest form. Snow shoes are the every day for the Inuits, North Americans, those in Greenland and Scandinavian tribes. Originally made of leather and small branches they proved the most practical way to cover snow filled territories.

Modern day versions are made from hi-tech materials. This growing winter sport combines a love of nature and fun on spectacular vistas. In Alpbach you can choose from advanced adventure to comfortable walking. A spectacular way to traverse the mountains away from the mass tourism. A great way to get fit – a winter type of nordic walking, that benefits your entire muscular structure.

In this holiday region guests can look forward to a wealth of cleared trails that are ideal for discovering the snow filled landscape. Breathe in the clear mountain air and be enthralled by the glimmer of snow crystals – you will be borne away from the everyday. Throughout the week there are a choice of guided snow shoe walks. For beginners there is the tour on the Reitherkogel that begins at the gondola. Together you will traverse to 250m for about 2 hours through thick powder snow. Snow shoes and walking sticks are part of the package. Good winter clothing and stront winter boots are your responsibility – and don't forget to bring a warm drink, it can be chilly. These local guided tours are free with your Alpbachtal Seenland Card which is available to you as our guest, direct from our reception team.

There is nothing stopping you from organising your own tour. A multifaceted choice would be a winter walk along the shores of the frozen Kramsach lakes. If you fancy more of a challenge then head for the Ausberg-Alstenberg in Alpbach. Walk up the side of the drag lift next to the Böglerhof towards Hausberg and Waldheim. Then follow the path A1 direction Bischoferalm and back down to the Alsten Farm and your starting point.

Another beautiful destination is an excursion through the Greiter Graben. Start at our front door and envelope yourself in the Inneralpbach side of the Kitzbühler Alps. Walk along the river bank to isolated farmhouses across the deep and undisturbed snow and take the other side of the river back to your starting point where refreshment awaits you.
